Blackorange Case Study: Why SONAR™ Is Adding PredictLeads Company Signals

Narrowing market-signal outbound to the buyers already acting, using hiring, funding, and key-customer signals.

A lot of signal-based outbound stops at the market event: a regulation, a tariff change, a supply shock, plus a list of every company it touches. This case study shows how far that gets you, and where it runs out.

Blackorange is an Amsterdam outbound agency for founder-led B2B companies across Europe, the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Its SONAR™ engine watches a market for buying moments and hands sellers who to contact, and why. For one client, a European trader in regulated pharmaceutical ingredients, SONAR™ logged 29 signals tied to 16 buyer accounts in its first three months: 8 hot, 17 warm, 4 cold, mostly from geopolitics and regulation. Each signal arrived as a card naming the affected buyers, explaining why now, and suggesting a compliance-safe opener. The client picked who to contact and sent from its own mailbox.

The gap: one export-control change exposed 15 European buyers equally, but web publications alone couldn't show which of them was already reacting, for example by qualifying a second source. That's the gap Blackorange is now addressing by integrating PredictLeads data into SONAR™'s live plan.

Market signals vs. company signals

A market signal is an external event that changes conditions for every exposed company: it tells you who has a reason to buy. A company signal is an observed, timestamped change at one company, a new job posting, a financing round, a new customer relationship: it tells you who shows evidence of acting. The market signal writes the opening line; the company signal decides who gets it first.

What's being added

Blackorange is integrating three PredictLeads datasets into SONAR™:

  • Hiring signals from Job Openings, surfacing a first sales hire, a new region, or a growing team.
  • Funding signals from Financing Events, flagging new budget and the pressure to spend it, with type, amount, and date.
  • Key-customer signals from Connections, showing a newly listed customer as a dated event.

As Alfredo Silva, partner at Blackorange, puts it: "The hard part was never finding companies. It's knowing which ones just changed, before anyone else notices. That's what PredictLeads will give SONAR™."

How it's designed to work

One signal alone is a hint; several in the same window describe a company likely about to buy, say a funding round plus three new sales roles plus a new customer in one quarter. SONAR™ will combine these company signals with the web publications it already reads, aiming for a sharper picture of each company and fewer dead-end cards.

Take the export-control card: today it lists 15 exposed buyers with equal weight. With company signals added, a buyer that just opened purchasing roles, or added a new supplier relationship, would move up the list, and the opener could reference what that buyer is already doing.

The integration is in progress; Blackorange hasn't yet reported results from it. The reachability gate stays unchanged: a company only reaches a SONAR™ card when its decision maker can actually be contacted, and the deal stays with the client.

The takeaway

Start from the market, narrow with the company. Weight signals by what the client already values, in this case geopolitics and regulation matched the client's own priorities. Gate on reachability. Keep the conversation with the seller.
